ACHRI Matching Funds

Granting agencies and organizations frequently run research funding competitions requiring matching funds from the institution. These are generally highly competitive and prestigious awards, which help enhance our research capacity and the academic reputation. To support and encourage our members to compete for these awards, ACHRI is committed to providing matching funds within its capacity.

Request Guidelines:

The following process outlines ACHRI's approach to support matching funds applications:

1. Matching fund requests must be submitted to ACHRI Director and Theme Leader concurrently, immediately after the announcement of a competition.

2. Documents required to be submitted:
• One-page justification based on factors b.-j. listed below
• CV of PI(s)

3. ACHRI will review and evaluate all matching requests considering the following factors:

a. Availability of funds;
b. Alignment with the Strategic Plan;
c. Matching ratio – (Return on Investment);
d. Whether the investment could be recovered from other sources (e.g. CFI JELF Plan B funding offered by the Institute has a high probability of being 100% recovered);
e. Whether the application is submitted to a prestigious, national or international organization (e.g. CIHR, NSERC, Genome Canada, Brain Canada, etc.);
f. Whether the investments will leverage existing investments;
g. Evidence of contribution from other partners (AHS, SCNs, AIHS, Departments and other Institutes, industry etc.);
h. The potential impact of the investment on the Institute and its partners;
i. Matching will only be considered for investments that will have local benefit within the Institute (at least 80% local).
j. Applicant's academic and scientific track record;

4. Following the evaluation and prioritization by the theme leads and ACHRI executive leadership, the Director will issue a conditional or firm letter of commitment – depending upon the justification and the availability of funds.

5. The Director will report on all matching commitments at the next scheduled AREC meeting.
