Governance

The ACHRI Training Program is governed by a committee structure that ensures effective operations and transparency.  Dr. Donna Slater acts as program director, reporting to ACHRI’s Scientific Director. The program director  oversees all the activities including operations, finances, curriculum planning and funding streams of the ACHRI Research Training and Education Platform.

The Executive / Curriculum and Operations Committee, comprised of the Program Director, Program Advisor, ACHRI Theme Leaders, the Project Manager, and a representative from ACHRI, acts as a representative group of the Program Advisory Committee, and meets regularly to address issues that require immediate attention as well as to approve recommendations by the Training Review Committees.

Our Training Program employs the expertise of several Training Review Committees that rank trainee applications for funding support and submit the rankings to the Executive / Curriculum and Operations Committee for final funding decisions.  Our Training Review Committees are divided into four sub-groups – Basic Science Graduate, Basic Science Postgraduate, Human Subjects/ Clinical Graduate, Human Subjects/ Clinical Postgraduate - which presents an effective and fair mechanism of application review; additionally there are separate review committees for the Undergraduate Summer Studentship and ACHRI/ACHF Clinical Research Fellowship competitions. Members of the Training Review Committees rotate on a regular basis, to minimize conflict of interest and ensure a fair review process.
