Research Interests / Program
Dr. Currie's research is in the area of health economics. Health care resources are scarce, and in order to make the best use of these resources, we need information on the costs and outcomes associated with different interventions - this is what economic evaluation is all about. Gillian works on the methods and application of economic evaluation of health and health care interventions in the maternal, infant, child and youth content area. The goal is make choices about resource allocation to achieve optimal health outcomes for children and youth. Within economic evaluation, her methods focus primarily on measurement of the benefits of health interventions, and the use of stated preference methods, such as contingent valuation and discrete choice experiments, to elicit preferences for health and health care. Her methodological research in preference measurement also includes its application on broader priority setting contexts.
