The Honourable Justice Rosalie Abella continued her Western Canada tour at UCalgary Law on Friday, holding a fireside chat and candid conversation with an audience of law students.

Abella spoke on a number of topics, including how she makes her judgements, and how Canada can work to improve access to justice across the country, and the role of law students, young lawyers, and law schools in driving change. She encouraged all law students (and practising lawyers) to participate in pro bono activities and to give back to their community however they can.

Abella also recounted some personal stories, including a moving story about being the child of Holocaust survivors and her decision to become a lawyer.

Justice Abella was given the rock star treatment on her tour, complete with tour t-shirts and exclusive access for students to meet her following the talk.

Justice Abella’s visit was sponsored by the national and Calgary chapters of Pro Bono Students Canada, as well as the Alberta Law Foundation.
