LRC High-Profile Event: Call for Initiatives

The Language Research Centre (LRC) is currently inviting proposals for a larger event or short event series.

The Language Research Centre (LRC) is currently inviting proposals for a larger event or short event series.

The goal of the event(s) is to increase the visibility of the LRC and to engage the wider community in Calgary and beyond in conversations around the research undertaken in the LRC in the areas of theoretical linguistics, applied linguistics and language learning, and literary and cultural studies. With this event, the LRC contributes to the University’s Research Plan (2018-2023) “to engage our communities that we serve and lead in discussions about important issues where evidence is required to better understand those issues or even resolve them”.

The event(s) should attract a wide audience that can include—but should reach beyond—the academic community. The main component of the event should be in English, but parts of event(s) can be held in other languages. The LRC can support the proposed initiatives with up to $4,000. Applicants are encouraged to seek out additional support (in the form of cash or in-kind). Additional sources of funding (both those being sought and those secured) should be indicated in the proposal.

  • The event(s) need to take place between November 2020 and February 2021, and no funds can be spent after February 28, 2021.
  • In-person events have to comply with the University regulations for in-person events.
  • Any member of the LRC can apply. Student members have to apply together with a SLLLC faculty member.
  • Members who receive funding through this initiative are asked to provide a brief report on their activity that can be used for the LRC website.

To apply, please complete the questionnaire and submit to LRC Director, Martin Wagner.
