UCalgary perspective on Alberta’s reopening plan

Message to campus community

Dear campus community,

Premier Jason Kenney announced a three-stage reopening plan on Wednesday, May 26 which includes the possibility of post-secondary institutions resuming some in-person classes as early as mid-June.

The provincial reopening strategy is based on vaccine rates and hospitalizations, with each new threshold unlocking additional abilities to resume normal activities.

The University of Calgary is working closely with Alberta Health Services and Advanced Education regarding the reopening plan and the implications for our campus. For the next two weeks, we will continue to operate under the mandatory work-from-home requirements and support online learning as we learn more.

As the situation unfolds, we will provide you regular updates to support your studies, your teaching and research activities. The safety of our campus community remains our top priority. As always, we will make all decisions surrounding UCalgary’s re-opening based on medical evidence.

Much may change on campus over the coming weeks and months, but my respect for your resilience, caring for one another and your dedication to this university remains. Thank you all for your hard work. Let us hope very soon, COVID-19 will be behind us.
