Research Summary

I study intestinal epithelial cell biology in the context of chronic inflammation. We use state-of-the-art approaches to study epithelial cell behaviour during the resolution of inflammation.  Specifically, I am interested in how proteases and peptides in the inflamed mucosa may participate in tissue repair. This work is relevant to IBD, and data show that the pediatric population is the fastest growing demographic in terms of incidence of IBD. I co-lead the CSM's Human Tissue Research Platform, which is developing organoid technology as a diagnostic tool in adult & childhood diseases.
