Three objectives

There are three main objectives for the AB3C research study.

Objective 1.

To measure and describe factors that determined the need for testing, such as contact with known or suspected COVID-19 cases, clinical and demographic features, clinical and laboratory features, management and outcome of COVID-19 disease in both confirmed and probable COVID-19 cases.

Objective 2.

To look at the biology of the virus, the child’s genome and immune response to COVID-19 infection. Researchers will evaluate blood and other biologic samples (nasopharyngeal, urine, stool) collected from a sample of three groups:
Group 1- children with confirmed COVID-19 infections
Group 2- symptomatic children who tested negative for COVID-19
Group 3- healthy children without evidence of COVID-19 infection in 2020.

Objective 3.

To measure antibodies in the three groups of children noted above, with the goal to determine not only which children with confirmed and probable COVID-19 develop antibodies, but also whether antibodies develop in children who were ill but did not test positive for COVID-19, and in children who were not known to be ill. This will improve our understanding of the prevalence of antibodies in children with or without a definite history of COVID-19.
