History of The Owerko Centre

Creating a home where cross-disciplinary researchers can work together and foster the next generation of researchers.

The Owerko Centre was made possible thanks to a generous gift from Calgary philanthropists Stan and Marge Owerko to the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation.

The Owerko Centre is based at the Child Development Centre on the campus of the University of Calgary and is housed in a purpose built 930 square-meter facility. Along with special testing and play rooms with adjacent observation suites, The Owerko Centre also hosts a motor skills examination area and labs for the preparation and collection of biological samples.

“We know that brain-related illness can be devastating for families,” says Stan Owerko. “We want to ensure that brilliant scientists have the resources they need to increase knowledge about the brain and develop new treatments to help children in our community and around the world.”
