Take a Hike!

Feeling the need to burn some energy? Starting off 2015 with a promise of a healthier you?

It doesn’t really matter your reason; getting out for a brisk walk can be the first step (no pun intended) in developing healthy habits and a healthier lifestyle. It’s good for your body and it’s good for your brain.

The Werklund School of Education, using a program called Map My Run ®, has pulled together and tested a list of five, 30-minute walks in and around the campus of the University of Calgary.   Each walk is in the range of two to three kilometres, and is easy to complete, either with friends or solo, within an hour.  Some will take you through the local neighbourhoods; others head across campus; and we’ve even included a walk that keeps you entirely inside (it is February and we are in Calgary, after all).

Keep in mind that on these and any walks you might take during the winter months in Calgary, you’re bound to encounter some ice and snow— take care to move carefully in these areas.  And always remember to use crosswalks and make sure the lights are with you when you cross the main roadways in and around campus.

We encourage everyone to try them out and send us your own to add to the list!
